Hi Everyone! When we learned about Identity and Performance from Erika Pearson's article I immediately thought of Facebook and its "Inbox" feature. This feature not only allows you to say/post whatever you want to whoever you want but it also allows you to move your identity "back stage." I find that most of my Facebook friends are almost always positive, or at least try to be when updating their Facebook statues. However, I know from my own experience that they may be just putting on an act, or using their "front stage" identity. When I worked this summer I was Facebook friends with my boss, so naturally when I was at work my Facebook status would say something like "work :)" or "busy day," I would never dare to make it something like "I hate my job" or "work sucks." The Facebook inbox feature allowed me to truly state what was on my mind to my friends in our "thread," we have had it for about two years since we all went away to college and we basically use it as our way of telling each other about out days, the things that are posted on our thread are things that would never be seen on our "wall-to-wall" or statues. This is why I feel that the Facebook indox feature allows people to vent or use their "back stage" identity.
